Levels of Care

Virtual IOP in Colorado.

The full structure of our intensive outpatient program, delivered by secure video from wherever you are in the state.

Telehealth care

The same program, wherever you are in Colorado.

The Redpoint Center's Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program is our IOP delivered entirely online. The same licensed clinicians, the same individual and group therapy, the same personalized care plan, held over secure video instead of in one of our offices. It exists because for a lot of people the thing standing between them and treatment is not willingness. It is a drive.

Choosing the virtual format does not mean choosing less. A systematic review of telehealth for substance use treatment covering 13 studies, seven of them randomized controlled trials, found that no study observed a significant difference in substance use outcomes between in-person care and telehealth, and that treatment satisfaction and therapeutic alliance were generally comparable. The American Psychological Association reports the same picture in mental health care, where telehealth is essentially as effective as face-to-face psychotherapy, with higher retention rates. If you want the detail on what intensive outpatient care involves, our in-person IOP page covers it in full.

  • You live hours from the nearest office, or in a town without one
  • Your work schedule will not bend around a commute
  • You are caring for children or a family member during the day
  • Reliable transportation is not something you can count on

Substance use and mental health

What we treat in Virtual IOP.

The same conditions we treat in our offices. Care is trauma-informed throughout, so the work moves at a pace that does not risk re-traumatization.

Everything we treat

Substance use disorders

Comprehensive care for addiction to alcohol, opioids, stimulants, and other substances.

Anxiety disorders

Treatment for PTSD, OCD, panic disorders, and generalized anxiety.

Depressive disorders

Support for major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders.

Co-occurring disorders

Integrated treatment when a mental health condition and substance use are happening at the same time.

Getting set up

How virtual care works.

There is less to it than people expect. Our admissions team walks you through each step before your first session.

  1. 1

    Check that Virtual IOP fits

    About 10 minutes

Call (303) 219-0973 or verify your insurance online. Our admissions team talks through what you are facing and confirms virtual IOP is the right level of care, or points you to the one that is.

  2. 2

    Confirm you are set up

You need a stable internet connection, a device with a camera, and a private space where you can speak freely. Basic familiarity with digital tools is enough. Nobody is expected to be technical.

  3. 3

    Build your schedule

We set your sessions around work, school, and family: mornings or evenings, three to five days a week.

  4. 4

    Join your first session

Sessions run over secure, HIPAA-compliant video with your clinician and your group. What is said in the room stays in the room, exactly as it would in one of our offices.

In session

What a week actually looks like.

Virtual IOP runs three to five days a week, in the morning or the evening, so treatment sits inside the life you already have rather than replacing it. Sessions are live and interactive, not recorded lectures. You are in a room with the same people each week, and that group becomes one of the reasons the format works at all.

Your week combines individual therapy with your primary clinician and group sessions with your peers. Our clinicians draw on cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR, and acceptance and commitment therapy, matched to what you are actually working on. Family support sessions run virtually too, and when families take part they tend to make the therapy more effective, build accountability, and improve how everyone communicates at home.

  • Individual therapy with your primary clinician
  • Live group therapy with the same peers each week
  • Recovery coaching alongside the clinical hours
  • Family support sessions when they will help
  • Alumni connections and aftercare planning before you finish

Virtual vs in person

What changes, and what does not.

The clinical content is the same in both formats. What changes is everything around it.

The commute disappears

No drive, no parking, no hour lost either side of a session. For clients who live hours from an office, this is the difference between attending and not.

The structure stays

Set session times, three to five days a week, the same commitment as attending in person. Flexible does not mean optional.

Privacy works differently

Sessions run on secure, HIPAA-compliant video and you attend from a space you choose. Some clients find they speak more freely from their own room than from a waiting room.

Skills get practiced where you live

You apply what you work on in the setting you will actually use it, instead of carrying it back from a clinic and hoping it survives the trip.

Good to know

Virtual IOP questions, answered.

Who is eligible for Virtual IOP at The Redpoint Center?

Virtual IOP is for people who need more support than weekly outpatient therapy provides but do not require detox or 24-hour care. The program is available to people physically located in Colorado or Wyoming during treatment. You will need a stable internet connection, a device with a camera, and basic familiarity with digital tools. Our admissions team can confirm whether it is the right fit in a short call.

Is virtual IOP as effective as attending in person?

The research says yes. A systematic review of telehealth for substance use treatment covering 13 studies found no significant difference in substance use outcomes between in-person and telehealth care, with treatment satisfaction and therapeutic alliance generally comparable. Two of those studies found better retention with telehealth than in person. What matters more than the format is attending consistently, and for many people the virtual format is what makes that possible.

How long is Virtual IOP?

Treatment length is individualized rather than set to a fixed number of weeks. Your care team reviews your progress and your goals regularly, and steps you down to lighter outpatient care when you are ready. Admissions can give you a clearer sense of what to expect once they understand your situation.

How many days a week will I attend?

Three to five days a week, with morning and evening options. Sessions are built around work, school, and family commitments, and your exact schedule is agreed with your care team when you start.

Who will I be working with?

Your care team includes licensed therapists and counselors and recovery coaches, led by our virtual clinical program manager, Brian Patrick, LAC, LPC. Medication management and medical oversight come from our Medical Director, Ryan Hashem, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist. Everyone you work with in Virtual IOP is part of the same clinical team that staffs our offices.

Is my privacy protected on video?

Yes. Sessions run over secure, HIPAA-compliant video, and the same confidentiality rules that apply in our offices apply online. We recommend joining from a private space where you can speak freely, and admissions can talk through options if finding one is difficult.

Does insurance cover Virtual IOP?

Most major plans cover intensive outpatient treatment, including the virtual format. Redpoint accepts Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, First Health Network, Kaiser Permanente, Rocky Mountain Health Plans, Select Health, TRICARE, and United Healthcare, and we can accept some Colorado Medicaid policies. Verify your insurance online or call (303) 219-0973 and we will check your benefits at no cost.

What happens when I finish Virtual IOP?

You step down to lighter outpatient care and stay connected through aftercare planning and alumni support. Before you finish, your team helps identify ongoing therapy, support groups, and resources, so the end of the program is a transition rather than a cliff edge.
