Tonya received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Colorado at Denver then spent several years raising her children and working in education before returning to Adams State University to earn her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Her counseling experience includes residential substance use treatment as well as private practice. Tonya’s empathy and non-judgmental approach honors the uniqueness and dignity of each individual. She considers it a privilege to journey alongside clients from all walks of life as they navigate their recovery path, get to know themselves better, and discover who they are created to be. Tonya provides a safe, therapeutic relationship in which she collaborates with clients to grow toward healing, wholeness, and freedom. Using an integrative approach, she incorporates techniques to guide the transformation of clients’ thoughts, behaviors, emotions, and physiology. Tonya values the power of group therapy and the essential role of a supportive community, as well as knows the benefits of humor and appreciates a good belly laugh. When not serving her clients, Tonya loves spending every chance she gets with her two college-age kids and one high schooler. She can often be found walking her dog named Amos, enjoying nature, playing board or card games, getting absorbed in a good book, cooking and baking wholesome food, or traveling to new places.
